measure directly over the shirt, just above the hip bones and through
the navel. Insert a finger between the tape and body to insure proper
ease. It is best to ask the customer if he desires the waist of his trousers
tight or loose and measure accordingly.
Measure with collar unbuttoned. Place the tape around the neck at the

Before taking this measurement, see that the customer removes all bulky
articles from his hip pockets and has heels together. When fitting slacks
is taken with the coat off, around the body in the same manner and position
where the chest was measured, but this time including both arms. The normal
difference between this measurement and the chest is seven inches. If
the difference is greater than seven inches, then the coat should be a
larger size to compensate for the extra material needed in the arms and
shoulders. Example: A customers chest measurement is 40", but
his overarm measurement is 49". This customer should probably take
a size 41.
Ask the customer to place his pants on his waist where he is comfortable

the outside just below the ankle, add 1" and you have the pant outseam.
This measurement is taken with the jacket on. Place one
end of the tape measure under the arm at the point where the fabric
comes together, then place the tape along the inside under arm seam
down the inside seam to the point where the customer wants the sleeve
to hit the hand. Normally, the jacket sleeve should hit the hand at
a point where 1/4 inch of the shirt cuff is showing.

With the arm at the side, place one end of the tape measure at the nape
of the neck and measure to the shoulder and down the arm to the wrist.
HEADWEAR SIZE CHART:
Hat sizes are either in "size numbers", or from "small to 2-extra
large". As an example, a "size number" of 6 7/8 is equivalent
to a size "small". The correct way to determine the customers hat
size is to place the tape measure around the head, locating the tape measure
towards the middle of the forehead, and measuring in inches.
